Deploying activities “Assessing the situation of the organizational model of eye care units at provincial level” in Phu Yen, Ninh Thuan, Lam Dong
In recent years, Vietnam has achieved a certain number of achievements in eye care and blindness prevention. However, alongside these achievements, Vietnam is also facing a number of existing, inadequate and unable to meet practical needs, such as eye care network models are inappropriate, deficiencies in both quantity and quality of human resources and structures, the conditions and equipment of facilities has not satisfied the requirements of development of techniques for ophthalmology ... Highlights inadequacies in the organizational model of the network of eye care in Vietnam today is the lack of uniformity, consistency in the organization of the network of eye care at both provincial and district level. This problem has affected negatively on the performance of eye care and blindness prevention at the local level. To provide evidence for the development of models of eye care units at provincial level consistent with practical needs, the Health Strategy and Policy Institute in collaboration with the Central Eye Hospital has conducted a survey “Assessing the situation of the organizational model of eye care units at provincial level” in some provinces and cities.
From 15 8- 1/9/2016, the Health Strategy and Policy Institute in collaboration with the Central Eye Hospital has conducted the survey “Assessing the situation of the organizational model of eye care units at provincial level” in Phu Yen, Ninh Thuan, Lam Dong. The survey team led by “Assessing the situation of the organizational model of eye care units at provincial level” Vice Director Vu Thi Minh Hanh, head of the delegation. Joining the Mission also had researchers at the Faculty of Sociology of Health.
In Phu Yen province, the Mission has worked with Leaders of Department of Health; Steering Committee for prevention of blindness provinces; Leadership, staff of Eye Hospital, patients/ family members of patients are using this service. At the Provincial Hospital, the delegation had a working session with leaders; medical staff and patients/ family members of patients are using the services of the Ophthalmology Department. In addition, the delegation had conducted a survey in Phu Hoa and Dong Hoa district. In 2 districts, the delegation had a working session with leaders of the district general hospital and operating officer of eye care hospitals; working with patients / family members of patients are using this service. Along with that, the delegation had a meeting with the officials in charge of eye care at the health station and community groups in four communes in two districts.

At the Provincial Hospital, the delegation had a working session with leaders; Medical staff and patients/family members of patients are using the services of the Ophthalmology Department. In addition, the delegation had conducted a survey in Ninh Hai district and Ham Thuan Bac district. In 2 districts, the delegation had a working session with leaders of district health centers and operating officer of eye care centers; working with patients/family members of patients are using this service. Parallel to that, the delegation had a meeting with the officials in charge of eye care at the health station and community groups in four communes in two districts.
In Lam Dong province, the Mission has worked with Leaders of Department of Health; Steering Committee for prevention of blindness province. The delegation heard reports of eye care activities in Lam Dong province in 2016 ... At the Center of Social Diseases Prevention Lam Dong province, the Mission has worked leadership and staff of the Centre Social Prevention, patients/family members of patients are using the service at the center. At the Provincial Hospital, the delegation had a working session with leaders; Medical staff and patients / family members of patients are using the services of Ophthalmology Department. In addition, the delegation had conducted a survey in Don Duong and Duc Trong district. In 2 districts, the delegation had a working session with leaders of district health centers and operating officer of eye care centers; working with patients / family members of patients are using this service. The delegation also had a meeting with the officials in charge of eye care at the health station and community groups in four communes in two districts.
The information collected on the status of the organizational structure and adequate level of human resources; conditions of facilities and equipment; ability to provide eye care services to eye care needs in the community and the challenges, as well as the inadequacies of the model eye care in Phu Yen provincial, Ninh Thuan, Lam Dong will be the important evidence to provide a roadmap for the development and selection of the organizational model of provincial care unit suitable for practical needs and capabilities of the local response, contributing to capacity building and effectiveness of the service provider provincial care facilities throughout the country.
