The Intensive Survey Research Methodology Training Workshop 2016 (04 – 28/01/2016, Khon Kaen, Thailand)

The Intensive Survey Research Methodology Training Workshop 2016 (The ISRMT Workshop 2016) was a training program of the Social Survey Center (SSC) at College of Local Administration (COLA), Khon Kaen University, Thailand. This course was financially supported by The Rockefeller Foundation in Bangkok and Khon Kaen University. 

The course was constructed on the basis of Survey Research Methodology from the University of Michigan, USA. The training program was designed to introduce students to the basic survey research methodology including formulation of questions; sampling; and questionnaire design construction, pre-testing and role play, actual conduct of survey questionnaires with field control management; data cleaning, coding and entry; data analysis with application of basic social science software; data interpretation and preparation of reports with key findings. It was a hands-on training program requiring the students to spend a considerable time in preparing survey instruments and conducting them in the field.

Students from 06 countries (Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos PDR, Cambodia and Bhutan) were selected after two rounds of the records and online interviews. Health Strategy and Policy Institute had 01 young researcher to be the representative of Vietnam to participate in this course. With the teaching participation of professors, PhDs from Thailand, Japan, USA and Australia, students not only attended in the theoretical lectures but also worked in group together and discussed proactively to implement the small survey in the field. The result of survey was presented to the Scientific Council including members from the College of Local Administration, Khon Kaen University, Khon Kaen Municipality and evaluated as detailed, convincing and high valuable in practical applications.

Through this course, students were guided on the theories and practices of survey research methodology and trained to work in the multinational, multiregional and multicultural contexts to adapt better in the trend of globalization and multilateral cooperation in scientific research.
